Webinar Newborn Hearing Screening

Congenital hearing loss is the most frequent congenital sensory defect. According to international data, the prevalence of congenital hearing loss including unilateral and mild hearing losses is 2-3 per 1000 newborns. Aim of early detection and intervention is to provide the best possible pre-condition for speech and language development and to avoid negative effects on cognition, psychosocial competence, access to school, access to education and on employment options. International directives of Newborn Hearing Screening (NHS) are presented. Experiences by a Germany wide evaluation of the NHS are introduced.
